Following the five days of the intense bombardment of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) the Nigerian soldiers have destroyed the defence of the bloodthirsty hoodlums at Arepo in Enugu state.

The Punch reports that the Special Boat Service of the Nigerian Navy led the ground attack against the vandals on August 2. However, the operatives met little or no confrontation as they fired their way into the heart of the vandals’ territory where several innocent security men were killed and buried.

Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, the director of defence information, confirmed the beginning of the ground operation against the vandals. He underlined that the operation was intended to continue until the vandals were completely detached from the nation’s pipeline at Arepo. Abubakar added that some of the vandals fled Arepo to Tongeji, an island off the coast of Badagary, where they were said to have held a meeting.

According to him, some of the suspected militants also fled to Snake Island, continuing that efforts were ongoing to track them. He said: “That operation is a continuous one. Some of them fled to Tongeji Island where they had a meeting and Snake Island, off the general area of Arepo. “That is where they are moving to but we are able to block the general area of Arepo. “We are mounting all round defence surveillance to ensure that those who sneaked into the place are arrested and denied free movement or regrouping. “You know other security agencies are involved like the civil defence, the police and you know, it has been a joint one.

“So, each of the security agencies is giving its own expertise and knowledge to ensure that those who might have escaped are apprehended to deny them from regrouping and causing unnecessary havoc again.” At the same time, the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, stated that the security outfit would not let any form of declaration of republic in the region. The one of the Niger Delta militant groups the Adaka Boro Avengers had issued a warning to Yorubas and Hausas in the region to vacate while also advising Niger Delta people to region as it planned to declare the region independent on August 1. However, the group later cancelled its planned declaration of an independent republic.
