New Benue LG Boss Remanded For Alleged Murder
About two weeks after being sworn in as the Sole Administrator of Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, Mr. David Yiman, has been remanded in prison by a Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged involvement in the murder of one Dr. Wilfred Tondo, a lecturer at the University of Mkar, Gboko.
The suspect was arraigned yesterday, alongside Kosuvenyi Kungwa and Emmanuel Nyajo, for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide punishable under Sections 97 and 222 of the Penal Code.
In the First Information Report, filed before the court, “the Divisional Police Officer, ‘B’ Division, Gboko Local Government Area, received information that on August 11, at about 5a.m., some gunmen numbering about three broke into the official residence of Mr. Aondosoo Tondo, aged 50, a lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Mkar.
“They shot him on the abdomen and he later died at Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, while receiving treatment as a result of the gun shot injury.”
According to the Prosecuting Police Officer, Inspector Hyacinth Gbakor, during police investigation, the trio were arrested for conspiring with many others, now at large, to commit the said crime.
At the mention of the case, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction. However, the PPO told the court that investigation into the matter was still in progress and asked for another date.
Counsel to the accused persons, Mr. Emmanuel Terve, did not oppose the application for adjournment, saying he would formally apply for the bail of his client. The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Isaac Ajim, in his ruling, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Medium Prison, Makurdi, and adjourned the matter to January 2017 for further mention.
